Juvenile Justice: "Close to Home" is Close to Reality
The state legislature printed its budget bills today and Governor Cuomo's "Close to Home" proposal is officially in. The plan would allow New York City to build its own residential placement system for kids who are currently sent to "limited secure" and "nonsecure" juvenile prisons run by the state. (For details, see our story here.) Mayor Bloomberg and the Reverend Al Sharpton released a joint statement today that makes the plan look like a done deal.
