The Difference We Make – Together

At the Center for New York City Affairs, we make headlines – and we make a difference.

That’s not an idle boast. It’s a fact.

And your support now will help us continue our work in the year ahead.

Here’s just some of what we’ve done during 2024.

Our InsideSchools project provided hands-on guidance to newly arrived migrant families navigating New York City’s daunting school system – and suggested practical steps City Hall can take to ease that process.

Our Child Welfare team advocated ways to make services to children and families in distress more helpful – and less harmful.

Our Economic and Fiscal Policy staff proposed workable solutions to New Yorkers’ most pressing problems, including making child care more affordable…

… And stemming the rising tide of serious workplace injuries across New York State.

The Institute for Transformative Mentoring strengthened grassroots anti-violence efforts.

And our weekly Urban Matters journal continued to bring you fresh insights on key issues….

… From the fight for environmental justice

… To bringing the joy of learning into our classrooms.

Like you, we certainly don’t know what the year ahead will bring.

But we do know who we are:

A dedicated team of thinkers and doers committed to creating a more just and livable city for us all.

Please make a tax-deductible contribution to our work today.

And best of the season.

Kristin Morse is the executive director of the Center for New York City Affairs at The New School.

Note to our readers: Urban Matters will resume its regular weekly publication schedule on January 8th, 2025.
